Orca of the Johnstone StraitsA few years ago I went sea kayaking in the Johnstone Straits in British Columbia to see the Killer Whales. There is really no way to describe what it is like to be in a kayak and have a whale swim up to you, then under you. Yes, the whales really did come close to the kayaks. No, they never once came close to capsizing anyone. One thing I noticed right away was that the dorsal fins on the whales stood straight up. I have been to Sea World many times and the dorsal fins on captured whales always fall over. It was amazing to watch a 6-8 foot dorsal fin break the water and ascend into the air. I fell in love with whales that summer. They are magnificent creatures.
